  • Classic Board Books - Pride and Prejudice, Jane Eyre, Alice in Wonderland, Romeo and Juliet

Just before we left for LA, I found these classic board books at our local book store. They had been tricky to track down so, as soon as I saw them, I snapped them up. They have quickly become Gigi's favorite "booooo"s. She loves to look at them and can frequently be found with them all in a row, flipping through the colorful pages. I love all of them, though I have to admit, Pride and Prejudice is my favorite... afterall one of Gigi's middle names is Bennet! I have read all these classics many times over, so it's wonderful to get to begin sharing them with her.

  • Daddy Love

Gigi and I are leaving again... this time we're heading up to Seattle to attend my sister's baby shower. Then, we'll be spending the week at her place. I'm planning to spend lots of time with my brother, Ryan, before he moves to Sweden! Kyle will join us the following weekend because Ryan's band, The Maldives, is having a CD release party at the Tractor Tavern. It's also Kyle's Nana's 85th birthday so we'll be celebrating with her. While I'm looking forward to the time in Seattle, it's hard to leave Kyle again. Gigi is head over heels in love with her Daddy, and the feeling's mutual. You should see the way Gigi's face lights up when she see's her "DaDaDADA". She just adores him. We'll be counting down the days until he joins us!

  • Family Time in Seattle

    Woodland Park Zoo Bears
We are having a great time in Seattle. We've gotten to have dinners with family and friends, we went to the zoo with Nan (Gigi's special Grandma), and I even made it out for a little clothes shopping trip, and salsa dancing with Marion!

We are staying with my sister and her husband, Rob, and helping them prepare for their baby's arrival by cooking up a storm. So far we've made two big pans of Tuna Noodle Casserole, and two of lasagna, turkey burger patties, and chocolate chip cookie dough. Still on the list are wontons, key lime pies, meatloaf, and a couple other things. They'll have a full freezer just in time.

Can you believe that photo from the zoo? That bear was about three feet away and I'm pretty sure he was eying Gigi's baby food pouch. She kept saying, "Woof Woof!" Silly baby.

  • More Teeth? Seriously?

    sick gigi
Our fun in Seattle has hit a little snag... teething has reared it's ugly head fangs again. I need to get my timing down better! She cut her upper two when I was here in Seattle on my own... three molars when I was in L.A. on my own... and now I think she's started on the incisors while I'm here... on my own. Gigi has eight front teeth and four molars. How can there be more?! Luckily, I have my sister here for support and she doesn't judge me when i start crying at the dinner table. I really hate to see Gigi so uncomfortable, and to be honest, it's hard on me too. We both could really use a big Daddy-hug right about now. But, as I sit here, sipping a little wine, with my homework done, I am so grateful to my sister who's so understanding of everything... I'm really lucky to have a best friend who's also a sister.

  • My Mama

There's something about becoming a Mom that reshapes the way you see your own Mom. I am so grateful to my Mother for all the lessons, wisdom, love, and time she's given to us over the years. But, the best thing I've ever seen... the thing I appreciate more than anything, is seeing her with my own daughter. Thanks, Mama. You're the best Nana around.

  • Bon Voyage

One of the main reasons for our trip up to Seattle, other than helping my sister prepare for the arrival of her babe, was to spend some quality time with my brother Ryan. On Friday Ryan is moving to Sweden, for a new adventure. I'm truly excited for him and for whatever this next year might bring his way. We will miss him so much, but luckily we get to go visit him really soon! Bon Voyage Ry Guy!

We're still getting settled back in and in the swing of things. I missed April's care package because we were just so busy! Just before we leftfor Seattle, I sent a care package to my friend Steph in San Diego and her sweet daughter, Lucia.

  • Bath Time

At the end of the day, even on the harder days, I love giving Gigi her bath. In fact, I look forward to it all day long. When she climbs into that warm water she becomes the silliest baby, bursting with giggles. It's a time for me to really be in the moment. I try to take it all in... the way her hair looks, the smell of the baby soap, how tiny her little shoulder blades are... For some reason, during bath time, I'm always so aware that another day is done and it's going by way too quickly.

Boy, do I love her to pieces.

Also, I'm pretty sure the majority of her hydration for the day comes from drinking bathwater. C'est la vie.

I hope you all have a great weekend... Kyle had shoulder surgery yesterday so we're going our best around here to keep everyone comfortable, rested, fed, and happy. Looks like it might be a queit weekend for us.

  • On My Mind

    Kacie Cooking
I've been cooking up a lot of food... and I'm working on my first cooking video to go along with my first published recipe! Stay tuned!

    books and baby
Gigi has been full of cuddles lately. She loves her books and can't get enough of them. I found her in the armchair like this the other day! She climbed up with her blankie and as many books as she could gather. What a sweetie!

    Dad and baby
Kyle had shoulder surgery last Thursday so we've been laying low around here. He's actually been helping me a ton. He's been helping me get Gorge in the Gorge all ready for the busy summer season. He's pretty uncomfortable but he's on the mend! Note the matching expressions... they always do this! Two peas these two.

    ikea colored cups
G loves her little IKEA cups and has been playing with them constantly... stacking and unstacking them. Plus, LOOK at how her hair is growing/glowing! It's almost time for hair clips. I'm in love with these ones and can't wait to order some for her.

I'm having a terribly hard time focusing on my schoolwork. I completely underestimated how hard it would be to just DO it. My presence around here might be a little sporadic until I get my two 10 page research papers done...

I'm so excited to become an Aunt in just a short time... I'm thinking I better get my bag packed and my camera ready for my trip to Seattle since the call could come any time now! How wonderful is that!

I'm working on a great series of posts about traveling to Paris. I get asked every year about my favorite things in Paris so I decided to put together a whole series and I'm loving it!

We need to buy our tickets to Sweden for this summer! I'm so excited about traveling. We are working on a couple of things with Gigi (like ditching the crib and the highchair) in preparation for traveling... I'm nervous about these transitions, but maybe it will be easier than I think!

The light in the evenings lately has been so gorgeous. Every evening around 5:30, I just want to grab my camera and dash out the door.

I know I'm a little late to the party, but we are obsessed with Downton Abbey. We just watched the Season 2 finale and now I don't know what we're going to do! I love it... watch it now if you haven't!

Finally, here's a video of our very silly girl, who keeps us in fits of giggles from morning to night...

That's all for now... hope you have a great start to your week.

  • The Sweetest (Lip-Dub) Proposal Ever

My friend shared a link to this on Facebook and (although I'm supposed to be studying right now) I just had to share it with you. A Portland actor, named Isaac, proposed to his girlfriend in the most amazing way. It's so clever and sweet...

...okay, now I'm really going to study. Hope you are having a great start to your weekend.

  • Paris Travel Tips: Things You Must Do

I get asked, several times a year, by my friends and family, for my Paris List. It's no secret that I love Paris. It's my favorite city in the world. I fell in love with Paris when I was 18, on a trip with my Dad and Stepmom. There's just something about that city, the bridges, the bakeries, the parks, the restaurants, the shops, the neighborhoods, the metro, the wine, the Eiffel Tour... I just love it all.

I decided to put my Paris List into a series of posts for anyone who's lucky enough to be traveling to Paris. Over the next couple of weeks I'll be writing about my favorite museums, restaurants, cafés, parks, things to see and do, and more. I'm using photos from our Honeymoon in Paris, along with quotes from a travel journal I kept while we were there.

To get things going, here is my list of 10 things you absolutely must do when you find yourself in Paris...

Paris Champs de Mars wine Eiffel Tower
The Champs de Mars is the perfect evening hang out. It's a wonderful place to have a little picnic and take in the view of the Eiffel Tower when it lights up late at night. There are lots of people camped out along the Champs de Mars all through the spring and summer. It's the perfect spot to share a bottle of wine and talk, and talk, and talk.

    Paris bread and cheese shops
Whether you are in Paris for a few days or a few weeks it's so much fun to find "your own" little bakery, wine shop, cheese shop, etc. Paris is grouped into little neighborhoods so you can easily make an area feel like it's yours.

    Paris Metro
We used our map everyday to make our plans. We marked all of the places we wanted to see with letters and the restaurants were marked with numbers. That way we could easily pick an area to visit that had sights and good food nearby. Paris has great transportation. The buses are great and since they're above ground you can take in the sights while getting from place to place. The Metro is really efficient and easy (watch out for pickpockets though)! My favorite way to get around Paris is to walk as much as possible. Often Kyle and I would walk "there" and take the Metro "home" after a long day of sightseeing.

    Bridges Paris
There are so many great bridges over the Siene River. When we were picking an area to explore we would try to cross a new bridge on our way. I love Pont Alexandre III but there are so many to choose from.

    Paris Apartment
We are lucky enough to have family in Paris which means we always have a great place to stay. I know a lot of people that love using Airbnb, or other vacation by owner type sites. It's so wonderful to stay in an apartment because they are usually less expensive, and a little bigger than hotels. It's also a wonderful way to make yourself "at home" while you're traveling. It's a lot easier to pretend you're French when you're coming home to a cozy apartment.

    rain paris
It's so much fun to get caught in the rain in a city as lovely as Paris. But the effect would be ruined if you had an umbrella. It's much more fun to take shelter in a nearby museum or café. As Audrey Hepburn said in Sabrina, "Never a briefcase in Paris, and never an umbrella".

    reading paris books french
Last time we were in Paris I read, My Life in France by Julia Child. It made the trip (and the book) so much more rich because I was reading about the streets we were wandering down, the parks we were staying in, and the restaurants we were eating in.

    paris sky
I love the Parisian sky, and skyline. You really get a sense of the incredible architecture when you look up.

    Paris Food
Eat your heart out. We at so much when we were there. We'd have five course lunches, three hour long dinners, croissants every morning, and wine every night. We ate so much incredible food. Make sure not to get on any scales while you're there... ignore the ones at the Jardin du Luxembourg. For that matter only bring dresses and pants that won't make you feel guilty by getting tight.

    Paris flowers wine streets
Paris is a wonderful city, enjoy everything about it (even the ridiculous things)!

  • Feeding Time at the Zoo

It's been food food food around here. I've spent the entire day today shooting (and now editing) my first cooking video! I'm so excited about it. I don't have anything to show you yet, so instead I'll leave you with this little video of Gigi's new favorite activity.

    Silly Duckie.

I promise I'll be back to regular blogging soon. It's been bananas around here with trying to wrap up school, schedule photo job, and prepare to leave at a moments notice so I can be present at my nephew's birth!!! Oooh I can't wait to be an Aunt!
