Nap Time.

gwyneth

Well it has happened. Gigi has started the inevitable transition from two lovely two hour naps to one... and she's started getting out of her bed to play with toys, grab books, color, etc. We are following the tried and true protocol: (1. Put her back in bed and gently tell her it's time to sleep... 2. Put her back in bed and firmly tell her it's time to sleep... 3-100. Put her back in bed without speaking to her or making eye contact).

Tomorrow we will start the new schedule of only having a nap after lunch and I'll keep my fingers crossed that it's a big nap. Currently the only time I have to do my work is during her naps so her sleep time is necessary and important around here! I'm open to all advice about how to get your tot to stay in their bed, how to transition smoothly to one nap, or any nap thoughts you have. Luckily none of this has effected her night time sleep which is from 7:30/8pm-6:30/7am. Wish me luck...

  2. I always dreaded when my babies would suddenly out of no where, abort morning nap. On the bright side, afternoon naps would usually last 3-3.5 hours. Good Luck.

  3. Shell, Thanks!

Jerri, At least she’ll probably take a big afternoon nap. She’s so tired still in the morning but fights the nap once she’s in her crib. I guess that means she’s dropping it?

  4. My son dropped his second nap at about the same age. :(

  5. We put a gate on the kid’s door. That way they can play if they want, or sleep (next to the gate, all too often!) once they get tired – but they stay in their room! Once it was time for dropping a nap…I just stretched the time they were usually awake in the morning, and put them down for typical nap #2 an hour early. Make sure she’s fed before the big snooze, or it might be cut short!

Good luck! Billions of babies have successfully transitioned, so surely G (& you!) can too : )
