Here Comes Santa Claus

We took Gigi and our neighbors son, Waylon, to have their photos taken with Mr. Claus! G enjoyed herself and thought Santa was just fine...
santa

Waylon was pretty traumatized. Poor kid! But, it made for a pretty great Santa photo... santa
All in the name of Christmas!

And with that I'm signing off for the holidays. We are ready to head to Seattle to visit with our family and friends! Keeping my fingers crossed that Kyle gets the whole week off. Books, knitting, sleeping, eating too many cookies... I can't wait.

Safe travels and happy holidays to you and your wonderful families.

Love,
Kacie (and Kyle and Gigi of course!)

Baby #2!

christmas card pregnancy announcment

I'm so thrilled to share our Christmas card with all of you! We sent it out to our family and close friends this weekend.

We are overjoyed and feel so blessed.

15 weeks pregnant
I am 15 weeks now and feeling pretty darn good. This pregnancy has been exactly like my first. I felt queasy and tired in the first trimester, which wasn't helped by the fact that we spent most of the fall combating cold after cold! I cut back on my work, watched every available season of Parenthood, hardly took off my cozy pants, and so we made it through those first 12 weeks just fine. I'm happy to be a few weeks into the second trimester and feeling good.

big sister

By far the most wonderful thing I've experienced in the past few months is Gigi's joy at her "tiny baby"! She has been to all my doctor appointments with me and she loves to see and hear the baby. She spends time snuggling with my little growing belly and anytime my tummy grumbles she says, "Tiny baby! I hear it! Do you hear it?" Melts my heart. She's going to be such a fabulous big sister! *If she doesn't look incredibly thrilled in photo it's because the poor sweetie came down with a high fever last night and is still burning up this morning. Pajamas and movies are in order all day today.

A Quiet Thanksgiving

thanksgivingthanksgivingthanksgivingthanksgivingthanksgiving

We spent our Thanksgiving holed up at home with Kyle's parents. With my little sous chef by my side we worked together to make a simple little Thanksgiving dinner. We made a turkey, stuffing, gravy and some roasted asparagus... and pumpkin pie for dessert, of course. Gigi played nonstop with "Grammy". It was really mellow and wonderful. We spent the rest of the weekend laying flooring in our master bedroom and watching Christmas movies! It was one of the best Thanksgivings ever. I sure do love my little family.

Today it's back to reality with laundry, running a couple of errands, doing some mending/sewing projects, making turkey stock and grocery shopping... my goodness, that sounds awfully domestic! I hope you had a wonderful holiday and good luck getting back to work this Monday.

The In-Laws.

I have been blessed with many, many things in this life especially in regards to my family. One place I consider myself to be extremely blessed is the in the in-law department. My in-laws, Dave and Erika, are the most extraordinary parents. Kyle and I have been together for 11 years now and from the first day Kyle's parents have treated me like a daughter. From helping us buy our home, to sewing my wedding dress, to always giving thoughtful advice... they are everything you could possibly hope for when you marry into someone's family. They are helpful, kind, warm, loving, generous... I'm particularly close with Kyle's mom and I value my relationship with her with all my heart. This year I'm particularly grateful for everything they are. They'll be joining us for Thanksgiving and it'll be a quiet one with just the five of us cooking up a simple version of Thanksgiving dinner. They bring such a sense of warmth and love to every single holiday.

Look the adorable Halloween costumes Erika whipped up for Gigi and her best buddy/neighbor Waylon! They were Don and Betty Draper from Mad Men. She made the cute jackets and G's dress!

I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

My Mama

There's something about becoming a Mom that reshapes the way you see your own Mom. I am so grateful to my Mother for all the lessons, wisdom, love, and time she's given to us over the years. But, the best thing I've ever seen... the thing I appreciate more than anything, is seeing her with my own daughter. Thanks, Mama. You're the best Nana around.

Oscar Party with Heidi and Ben

I love watching the Oscars. It's such a fun time to curl up in your pj's with friends and eat good food, and celebrate great films. This year we watched most of the nominated films so it was even more fun. I just had to make Gigi a special onesie to wear (you can see my tutorial here)...

She really is a good sport... also, her hair was just like that when she woke up. That girl can make bed head look fabulous. We cleaned up the house and watched last year's best picture, The King's Speech.

When Heidi and Ben arrived we got down to the business of voting for the films and actors we wanted to win...

Style File: Me and My Valentine

This morning I woke up to fresh coffee (from Kyle) and yummy almond croissants (from my Dad) and snuggles in bed (from Gigi). I said to G, "If you want to be my Valentine give me a BIG HUG!" She leaned in and gave me the best. hug. ever. Then she gave one to Daddy too. There's a lot of love happening in this house.

With all the (much needed) relaxing over the past few days, the house is a complete disaster! Gigi and I are spending our day being cozy, ignoring my homework, and getting the house all cleaned up for Kyle. That man loves nothing more than coming home to a clean house. We're going to have Butternut Squash Soup for dinner and Hot Fudge/Salted Caramel Sundaes for dessert.

We are spending Valentine's day in our sweats, but here's a little stylish shoot from a couple weeks ago...Cozy Girls Style File

Foodie Football

Last week we got together with many of our food loving friends to watch the Superbowl. Only problem was that Kyle was really the only one who likes football. It was fun to have everyone over for the great game food...

Now we are off to enjoy our weekend. Gigi has been really sick the last couple of days so we may end up taking it easy. I'm hoping we can manage a little wine tasting and a dinner out for my birthday but, if we end up staying home, that'll be okay too. (If you want to see more food photos from the weekend they're here.)

Gigi's First Christmas (and Birthday Party)

We are settled back in at home and it is raining, raining, raining!  I put together this little video from Gigi's first Christmas and her first birthday party.  We are having a party on her actual birthday (New Year's Eve) this weekend but we also had one to celebrate with our family up in Seattle.  Thanks so much for the lovely holiday everyone!  Thanks for making G's first Christmas and birthday so wonderful!!!

Hope you all had a fabulous Christmas.  I'll be back with some photos from the weekend in Seattle tomorrow or Friday.  I'm taking it easy this week.  Trying to extend the vacation.

Wonderful Weekend: Thanksgiving with Family and Friends

For the past four years we have spent Thanksgiving at my Dad and Stepmom's house.  Our friends, Kurt and Scott, who just happen to be fantastic chef's at the Chateau Ste. Michele in Woodinville, WA come down and cook up the most fantastic Thanksgiving meals you can imagine!  Our good friend Bill always brings wonderful cheeses and wines and champagne!  This year there were sixteen of us, including my awesome brother and his roommate, Kevin.

ThanksgivingThanksgiving
These two wines were amazing!  The Columbia Crest Reserve 2008 was so delicious, well balanced and flavorful.  I'm a huge fan of Chateauneuf-du-Pape.  This particular bottle was from 2000 and was really peppery and rich.  It's such a treat to get to share these incredible wines with people who know about wine!  Educational and delicious!

ThanksgivingThanksgiving
My Stepmom, Nance, is the most amazing hostess.  She always sets the table with uniquely made name tags and personalized gifts for each person who attends.  My Dad likes to put in his "teeth" whenever people are coming over.  G was not quite sure about Pops.  Later in the evening she took me aside and asked me if she was related to him.

Stuffing made by me and Kyle.  It's so good.  It has fresh herbs, pine nuts and craisins.

Butter and silky mashed potatoes.  Technically they are riced potatoes since Bill used a ricer when preparing them.

Thanksgiving
Our heritage Turkey.  Kurt gets this bird from his friends that have a farm.  It was killed on Monday, picked up on Tuesday, brined on Wednesday and enjoyed on Thursday.  Doesn't get much fresher or more organic than this!

Scott's amazing caramelized carrots and the expertly carved turkey.

ThanksgivingThanksgiving
I made this Salted Caramel Cheesecake for dessert.  These are Nance's beautiful teacups for after dinner coffee.

Once we were finished eating we played games.  Charades was... interesting.  There was a very explicit acting out of the book/film The Firm as well as some other odd interpretations of things.  We were in stitches throughout the game playing.  Most people headed home around 10:30 but we were persuaded into gambling with Kurt, Nance, Scott, Ryan and Kevin.  I've never gambled before and let me tell ya... I had way too much fun (even when I was losing).  We finally threw in the dice and headed for home.  We didn't get to bed until 1 in the morning!

We spent the rest of the weekend digging up the yard for raised beds (Kyle) and sewing (me) and sleeping (Gigi).

I hope you all had a fantastic Thanksgiving and a wonderful weekend!

Wonderful Weekend: Thanksgiving with Friends

We had such a nice weekend!  On Saturday we got up early and spent the day cleaning and cooking and getting ready for our friends to come over for a potluck-style early Thanksgiving!  We were in charge of cooking the turkey and we also made green beans with garlic.  Everyone brought amazing food including, home baked bread, mashed potatoes and Chanterelle gravy, delicious stuffing, cranberry sauce, salad and pumpkin pies made from scratch!

ThanksgivingThanksgivingThanksgivingThanksgivingThanksgiving 1ThanksgivingThanksgivingThanksgivingThanksgivingThanksgivingThanksgivingThanksgiving
We shared good wine and beer and had a lovely evening.  I feel so grateful to have such wonderful friends.  For so long it was just me and Kyle.  We moved around so much that we have never really had a core group of friends.  It was such a blessing to have them all over together enjoying great food and our new kitchen!

ThanksgivingThanksgivingThanksgiving

On Sunday we went for a nice walk, got eggnog lattes and picked up the house.  I headed to Portland for a fun dinner/movie date with my friend Lauren.  I picked her up and we went to Park Kitchen for dinner, which was really yummy, then we hopped across the street to the Portland Art Museum for the NW Film Fest screening of Bucksville

I got home pretty late last night and I'm a bit tired today but this weekend was so fun!  I'm spending the day picking up ingredients for real Thanksgiving (we are making stuffing and cheesecake), doing laundry and cuddling with Gwyn.  Hope you all have a great Monday!

Wonderful Weekend: Fourth of July!

We had such a fantastic weekend!  It was busy, sunny, productive and relaxing!  Kyle's parents (Dave and Erika) came down Friday afternoon and just left this morning.  They are truly the best in-laws (and I'm not just saying that because they read the blog)!  We've been looking forward to their visit for weeks.  It's the first time they've come to town during a big holiday weekend so we gave them the full tourist treatment.

Friday...

On Friday we headed into town for First Friday.  Our town does First Friday's all year round but in the summer it's a really big deal.  The city shuts down the main drag and all the shops open up, kids play in the street and everyone comes out of the woodwork to enjoy the arts, music, drinks, food and the local shops.

Out to dinner.

(I know this picture is blurry but they wouldn't stop goofing around!)

Visiting hours with my new favorite Frye boots.

We all headed home after and put G to bed before heading back out to celebrate the weekend  free babysitters with our friends down at the brewery.

Sparklers were handed out to all the intoxicated locals.

Saturday...

Saturday morning brought big things like....

Gigi's first solid food!

I had to zip off to shoot a wedding so Kyle and his parents spent the rest of the day Saturday planning and starting on a patio for our backyard.  When I got home we threw together a quick BBQ but we were too tired and scrubby for many good photos.

Sunday....

On Sunday I went for a walk downtown with Danelle.  She treated me to coffee and a cupcake.  Good friend!

The afternoon was spent patio building...

Coronas...

Lounging in the backyard...

Tuna Burgers from Gwyneth Paltrow's cookbook.  They were soooo freakin' good.  So far this cookbook is very impressive!

Monday the Fourth of July...

I slept with my camera next to the bed so I could capture some photos of G first thing in the morning.  We are planning to move her to her own room tonight but first I really wanted to get some photos of how she looks when she wakes up right next to me.  Waking up next to her has been one of the biggest joys of my life.  I love her so much I kind just wanna gobble her up and absorb her.  Is that weird?

Anyway.  I did not eat my baby.  Instead... I made a frittata.

After breakfast we walked over to watch the parade.

Once home from the parade, Kyle got down to the serious business of smokin' some ribs.

The boy, his beer and his BBQ = happy boy.

For some reason, G decided this was the first day ever that she was just not going to sleep... at all.  Little stinker!

After dinner we walked down to Mike's Ice Cream...

...and then headed down to the waterfront to enjoy the weather and watch the fireworks display.

G finally fell asleep just in time for the fireworks.  She did wake up right as the big ol' we love America grand finale started.  I think she was confused.  Silly baby.

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

Wonderful Weekend: Father's Day

We just got home from a really rainy fun weekend in Seattle!  We drove up early on Friday morning to spend time with our families and attend the Washington Brewer's Festival at St. Edward's State Park.  We go every year for this Father's Day beer festival, but this was Kyle's first year as a Dad so it was extra rainy fun!

Friday...

We got to Seattle and G was immediatley swept up by Grandma.  We spent Friday relaxing with Kyle's family.

Saturday...

We got up early on Saturday morning and did a bit of cuddling before getting our day started.

Cuddling with me...

with Daddy...

and Grandma!

Kyle and I decided to get really "Seattle-like" and head to Pike Place Market for coffee and doughnuts even though it was cold and rainy.

It was a seriously bad idea.  Poor Baby G missed her nap, was hungry and tired and cold and traffic SUCKED!

Lovely June weather.  (Shot from the back seat where I was soothing the babe.)

We went to grab a quick lunch while Gigi was sleeping.

Then we headed to the beer festival so Kyle could participate in the keg toss.  Silly brewers. (He lost.)

With Kristen who works at the brewery.

We went to meet up with our friends, Jeremy and Tara, for dinner and a sleepover.

If you haven't eaten at Serious Pie you should!

Me and Tara waiting for our table.

The serve up amazing gourmet pizzas.  I think it may be the best pizza I've ever had... seriously.

Tara stayed home with G and we (Lindsey, Ben, Jeremy, Kyle and I) walked down the block to grab a pint.

When we got home from the bar, Gigi was awake (thanks to a big wet kiss from J&T's dog, Kingston.)  We got her back to sleep after I read her this verse I wrote (inspired by Go the F to Sleep)...

I'm sorry our friend's dog woke you

While you dreamed and slumbered so deep

But Mommy is home from the bar now

So please go the F back to sleep.

We definitely got an F grade as parents for Saturday!

Sunday...

By the time Sunday morning rolled around we were ready to redeem ourselves (especially since it was Father's Day)!

Kyle is SUCH an amazing Dad.  When I see him with G it makes me feel like the luckiest woman in the world.

As you can tell G feels pretty lucky too.

It seems like this...

was just moments ago!

Makin' Father's Day breakfast.

Tara and her lap dog Kingston (the baby-waker).  He was totally obsessed with Gigi!

Playing with Uncle J.

We packed up our bag and headed to lunch with Nana...

 and Mike.

After lunch we geared up to head to the beer festival.

G had a good time hanging out with all of our friends.

With Ben and Lindsey.

Maybe a little too much fun... she's her father's daughter!

With Jeremy and Tara.

Helping Dad serve.

Then we headed home to spend Father's Day evening with Dave and Erika.

Happy Father's Day to two fabulous Dads.

 Monday...

We loaded up first thing and headed home.  This was G's reaction upon arrival.

As you can see we are happy to be home after such a rainy fun weekend in Seattle!

I also wanted to take a moment to wish my own Daddy a very happy Father's Day.  He's an awesome Dad (and Grandpa)!

Wonderful Weekend: Mother's Day

We had such a fun weekend in Seattle.  It was busy and went by really quickly! Gigi got to visit lots of family and friends and we had a great Mother's Day brunch before heading home.  Hope you all had a lovely weekend.  Here's a few photos from the weekend.

Saturday:  We spent the day on Saturday visiting with our families.  Gigi got some quality time in with the great grandparents!  She's one lucky baby.

Gigi visiting with Great Nana...

and getting bear hugs from Great Grandpa.

My brother, Grandpa and Dad.

Sunday:  We had a family and friends over to Kyle's parents place for a casual brunch.

My very first frittata.  SO EASY!  It's like making a quiche without having to make the crust!

So happy to be a Mama.

Me, my sis, my mom and my brother.

After the nice brunch we had to pack up and head out.  The ride home was long but G did pretty good.  It is nice to be home but we had a wonderful time up visiting our families.  Thanks for such a fun weekend!  I had a wonderful first Mother's Day.

Happy Mother's Day!

Exactly one year ago, I found out I was pregnant.  I was only a couple weeks into the journey when Mother's Day came around.  Becoming a mother has been the best adventure of my life so far.  I am reveling it, loving it and cherishing every aspect of it.  When I wake up (very early) each morning and look at the squaking, smiling little creature next to me, I feel completely happy.  I can't wait to watch her grow up into the girl, young lady, and woman that she will become.  Motherhood has been more wonderful than I could have imagined it would be.  I'm completely over the moon for this little girl.  As my Grandma would have said, she's the bees knees.

There is so much energy, intensity, joy and excitement surrounding pregnancy and babies!  It's such a unique experience to be on the journey to becoming a mother.  I asked those of you who had a baby or have been expecting this year what you loved most about the motherhood experience.  Here's what you had to say...

Anfisa with her two daughters, Olivia (2.5yrs) and Kayla (4mos).

The best thing about being a mom is seeing my children learn and grow.

Megan with her duaghter, Lucia Denise (10mos).

What I love most about being a mom is loving Luci!

Traci with her two daughters, Ottilie (5yrs) and Opal (6mos).

What I love about being a mom is hearing my girls laugh and knowing that they are happy.

Marion and her duaghter, Nina (3.5yrs) and a baby due next September.

The thing I love most about being a mom is finding out that I am capable of such unconditional, (and often irrational), love for another human being.

Brittany with her daughter Beyonca (3mos) and Beyonca's Godmother, Kari.

Brittany: When I peek into her room at 5 am and she just catches a glimpse of me... that big smile, that's my girl, she's my world.

Kari: Becoming a Godmother this year gave me a front row seat to the magical progression that is motherhood, watching Brittany evolve into the beautiful mother that she is has been an extraordinary learning experience for me.

Becca with her daughter, Kesha Lee (8mos).

Being a mom is indescribable. To create a life, watch them grow, help them develop and become a person of their own... It is the one, true unconditional love in life.

Kate and her son, Waylon (2wks).

I love the fact that I love someone so deeply I get excited about his poop. Also, now I really have a new love and understanding for my own mother; I understand what those dopey looks she gives me are all about.

Maria and her daughter, Evelia (11mos).

There's nothing like seeing the excitement and joy in my baby's face and body when she sees her mama. That smile makes the tiredness and stresses of life go away. I am so blessed to be a mama. It makes me feel complete.

Jessica and her daughter, Claire (8mos).

I love that when I tell Claire to wiggle, she does.  I love that with every day that passes she looks more like me.  I love learning all the selfless lessons that you have no choice but to learn.

Ellen with her three kids, Joe (5yrs), Kate (2.5yrs) and Baby K (3mos).

I love best the moments when they make me truly laugh and, since I don't live with my sister anymore, finally having someone to share potty humor with. I also love the power- the power to create wonderful memories that will shape their future selves, the power to ask of them that which they are capable and see them change and grow.

Stephanie with her son, Harrison (1.5yrs) and a baby girl due in August.

What I love most about being a mom is the quintessential lesson our little ones teach us about truly being in the moment.  I love re-experiencing the world through the curious eyes of a toddler.

Kelsey and her son Kameron (1yr).

The best part about being a mom - is that I learned what love truly is. I know it's cliche and all but I see a different outlook on life and feel like I am not living for myself anymore, I am living and doing everything for my family. Having my son has inspired me to be a better person and to raise a wonderful and happy baby regardless what life tosses me!

Nicole and her daughter, Madison (2wks).

My favorite thing about being a Mom is how complete my family is now, I love watching my husband relishing his new role as a Dad, it makes me so happy. Madison's numerous facial expressions as she sleeps amazes me, I am in awe of how beautiful she is.

Jessica, expecting in May.

I'm so looking forward to meeting this tiny person that has been growing inside of me for 36 weeks, sharing he or she with my husband and learning who they are and will be.

Me and Gigi (4mos).

The thing I love most about being Gigi's mama is knowing that I get to be a part of the life she will create for herself and I get to encourage, support and love her every day.

Thank you all so much for sharing your photographs and thoughts.  I wish you all a truly wonderful Mother's Day.

Love,

Kacie and Baby G too!

A Special Note For My Mom

Dear Mom,

Thank you for loving me unconditionally, being one of my closest friends, all of the hugs and kisses, the thoughtful advice, the life lessons, every bowl of cereal you poured, lunch you packed and dinner you prepared, for all the checks you wrote, the daily phone calls, the sacrifices, the copays, the back to school clothes, the sink baths...   But most of all, thank you for being you.  Becoming a mother this year has given me a new understanding of everything that you are.  You always expressed to me that you loved me for who I was, that you were proud of me.  You have always supported my choices and I have never once doubted that your love for me was unconditional.  Now that I'm a mom, I find myself loving you even more than I did just a few months ago (which was a lot)!  I am so blessed to have you as my mom.  You mean the world to me.  Thanks for being the woman that you are and the mom that you are.

Love you,

Kacie

Wonderful Weekend: Happy Easter

This weekend I packed up the baby and headed up to visit my best friend Marion and her family for Easter.  Kyle had to stay behind to sip write a paper about cognac, eat healthy cheeseburgers and ice cream and catch up on his studying sleep.  We headed out Friday morning and just got home this afternoon!  It was so much fun to get to visit and reconnect with my friend and her family.  I have to admit, traveling alone with the baby and taking care of everything was not exactly easy, especailly when said baby decides to spit up and poop more than she ever has before therefore making the number of clothing items/diaper rags that you packed totally insufficient.  But, I'm so glad I made the effort and went on this little mini-adventure with her.  G Love and I had a fabulous time.  Here's a few pictures from my trip!

Friday...

We set out bright and early.

I stopped at my Dad and Stepmom's little ranch to have a quick cup of tea and visit with my cousin.

Warning... this next photo is not politically correct.

Dad had a special book for Gigi.

I love this wall color!  Nance helped me pick colors for the guest room!

Along the way.

"WINE N MUCH MORE"... What more do you need?

Marion's cutie pie daughter, Nina, holding Gigi.

 Saturday...

Taking a nice long walk/hike.

When we got back to the house Marion made goat cheese.

A puppy and a baby. Katie was very happy.

Gigi getting cuddles.

Marion's husband Alfonso whipped up a couple Spanish tortillas.  Yum!

I brought a couple growlers of beer that Kyle made and named after Gigi.  If you live in the PNW look for Little G ESB on tap at your local taphouse!

Marion is a fabulous bread baker!

Sunday... Happy Easter!

Gigi being a bunny.  Silly baby!

Alfonso loves babies.  He's got one on the way but in the meantime he cuddled with G.

Another long walk.

I popped outside while the kids were hunting Easter eggs to snap a few photos.  These kids are so fantastic, bright, enjoyable and silly!

I LOVE her socks!

Nana Visit and Oscar Party!

This weekend was WONDERFUL!  Just what we needed after last week.  My Mom arrived on Friday night, we had yummy Barley Lentil Soup for dinner with garlic bread before we all retired to bed early.

My favorite thing about the weekends is getting to wake up and snuggle with Gigi and Kyle.  Most mornings he's up and studying while G and I sleep in and cuddle.  She is such a happy baby in the morning and it was so fun to get to share her giggles with my Mom.

While G took her morning nap, Mom did my Tracy Anderson workout with me and then we bundled up the babe and went out to lunch at the bakery.  After lunch, we visited with friends and had a really lovely day.  We made a simple dinner and had a quiet evening.

Sunday morning came too soon and it was already time for Nana to head home.  She got some good bb cuddle time in while Kyle started making French Baguettes and I whipped up some crêpes stuffed with lemon ricotta and topped with banana and blueberry sauce!

After breakfast, Nana had some play time with Gigi before she had to head for home.

Gigi LOVES her Nana!

Once my Mom headed out, I started getting ready for our Oscar Party!  I freakin' love cozying up on the couch and watching the Academy Awards.  I sarted making this fantastic vegetarian chili that I make every year (if you make it do not add more than the recommended amount of chilis!  It's super spicy just the way it is!  Serve it with sour cream, sharp cheddar cheese and cilantro to cool it down) and...

...normally, I would make these yummy cornbread muffins.

But this year Kyle wanted to make baguettes!  They turned out so good!

I got out the Oscar books...

...printed up the ballots for voting...

...got out the tiny oscar...

...and started admiring the red carpet fashion!

When my Dad and Stepmom arrived they got right down to business picking their winners.

I made Gigi this silly onsie.  (Yes, I know I'm a HUGE dork.)

"Dude, Mom, you are soooo weird.  Plus, it's not fair to take advantage of my reflexes by making me hold this thing!"

We had such a nice evening watching the show, eating chili and fresh baked bread, cuddling with the babe and sipping wine.  I hope you all had a lovely little weekend too!

Valentine's Day

So, I actually think Valentine's Day is pretty silly and very Hallmark-y.  But I'll use any excuse for extra cuddle time and a good bottle of wine.  Poppy and I had all day together and we decided to make silly Valentine art and brownies!  We used the Test Kitchen Classic Brownie recipe and popped them in the oven.  While they baked we made our cards.

First Poppy painted her thumb...

and used it to make a circle stamps.

she transformed them into her "famous" circle people.

Then I helped her to write her messages of LOVE!

By the time we were done crafting, our brownies were out of the oven and cooled.  We cut out heart shapes from a piece of paper and laid them over our brownies before dusting them with powdered sugar!

Yum!

After Pops headed home to devour her brownies with her folks, Kyle played with G while I whipped up my Baked BBQ Chicken (recipe coming soon) and Test Kitchen Macaroni and Cheese which, for the record, actually isn't as bad for you as I thought it was going to be!

We opened a nice bottle of wine...

To end the evening we all curled up on the couch to watch Casablanca!

Hope you all had a wonderful Valentine's Day!

Merry Christmas

Wishing you a very Merry Christmas day full of family, friends and lots of love.

Despite missing our families immensely this Christmas, we managed to have a wonderful day.  We're sitting down now for a card game, White Christmas, good cheese and procuitto while we wait for our chicken dinner to roast up.

We started our morning with coffee and whipped cream in our favorite mugs.

Then we opened the present that Kyle's parents sent.

Baby's first Christmas ornament.

Calypso ate more ribbon.  She doesn't learn very well.

Kyle made Strata based on a recipe his Nana makes every year.

We spent the rest of the day putting together the baby's room while Calypso slept in the stroller.  It looks wonderful.  I'll have pictures to share tomorrow!

Happy Holidays!

Love,

Kacie, Kyle, Calypso and Tiny

Happy Christmas Eve

Christmas is my favorite holiday.  I love everything about it.  This Christmas is the first Christmas we are spending without our families.  We’re a little sad to be staying put and not spending the cozy evening with my family and the morning with Kyle’s family.  But, within two weeks of our due date, travel doesn’t seem very logical.  We had a doctor appointment yesterday and it doesn’t appear that our baby girl will be making an appearance any time soon.  We’ll probably make it to our due date after all!  Who’d have thought?!  We still feel it's best to play it safe, plus who wants to spend eight hours in the car when they're 9 1/2 months pregnant?

We’ve spent the week preparing for a simple little Christmas at home.  Here’s our little week in pictures...

Calypso's favorite spot to sit.

Our Christmas tree.

Kyle's parents sent down our Christmas presents!  It's a wonderful little slice of home.

Cozy morning in my new favorite jammies.  I tore my old favorite pajamas when I hadn't realized I was too pregnant to be wearing them (Kyle found this episode extremely funny)!

Frisky Calypso.

I thought the vertical stripes might make me look slimmer, but they didn't. =)

Ribbon and kittens don't mix.  She spent all day attacking the ribbons on the presents and then she threw up in the middle of the night.  She's not the brightest kitten in the litter.

Poppy and I spent an entire day making cookies using an old fashioned Mirro Cookie Press.  Kyle's Mom makes cookies this way every year, so it was nice to have some familiar cookies around.

We made green trees....

purple flowers and pink butterflies!

Then we whipped up some frosting and decorated all of them!

Rudolph and I had a wonderful, sugar filled day.

I hope you have a wonderful, cozy Christmas Eve.  I plan to spend the day working on Kyle's Christmas present, watching movies and maybe doing a bit of sewing.  Then, I think, we'll head out on the town for dinner.  It sounds nice to get dressed up and have a special dinner date.

Love,

Kacie

Thanksgiving!

THANKSGIVING!

For the third Thansgiving in a row, we headed up to my Dad and Stepmom's house for their annual dinner.  Two good friends, Scott and Kurt, are chefs at the Chateau Ste. Michelle in Woodinville, WA and they make the most amazing food!  Everyone else that attends is either a food or wine lover and pitches in with fabulous dishes or incredible bottles of wine!  It's nothing short of gourmet.  Here's a little story of our day in photos...

We got up early and made Grandpa Apple Pies and...

Craisin and Pine Nut Stuffing.  Meanwhile at the Ranch...

Dad was smoking a ham and...

The turkey was on the BBQ.

It was snowy and lovely at the Ranch.

The bees were definitely hibernating.

My stepmom Nance had created lovely place settings for everyone...

with their own special name tags...

and a thoughtful gift.

Kurt whisking up his excellent gravy.

This is what happens when foodies and winos collide!

Nance and Kurt!

Before dinner = 37 inches!

Checking the turkey.

Scott and Bill cooking up caramelized carrots and sage potatoes.

Turkey's done!

The plate of Thanskgiving food I've been craving for months!!! Corn bread, rice salad, stuffing, turkey, ham, green beans, carmelized carrots, sage mashed potatoes, gravy and cranberry sauce!  Yum!!!

After dinner = 39 inches!

Dad in his Hawaiian shirt and bee apron getting ready for clean up.

McCoy, Jack Jack, Max and Lucy begging for scraps (of which they got plenty).

Col Solare!  My wine ration of the BEST wine!  Yum!

Dad, Kurt and Nance.

Judy brought these bizarre headdresses... and we may have had a little too much fun with them!

Judy and Nance.

Dad and Kyle.

Silly Daddy.

Erika.

Me.

Time for dessert.  Cranberry pudding, pumpkin chiffon pie, pumpkin chipotle custard, apple cherry pie, and apple pie!

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving and have a perfectly relaxing weekend!

As for us... it's moving day and it's snowing (and there's a bit of freezing rain)... should be interesting!
